In Greek mythology, the cornucopia was the horn of Amalthea, the goat who nursed the infant Zeus on the island of Crete.
When the god, still small and impetuous, accidentally broke one of his horns, an uninterrupted river of flowers, fruits, and riches began to gush from that opening.
Since then, that curved shape has become the universal symbol of abundance.
