Interior design trends of 2024

What will our homes look like in 2024? The annual report of 1stDibs gives us a look, having involved 624 interior designers from all over the world to define new trends.
“Colour preferences are changing, pattern affinity has evolved, and much of what we saw trending on social media last year may no longer be embraced”, said the Editorial Director of 1stDibs.
The colours of 2024
Shades such as bright red, neon yellow and orange have been forgone in favour of more grounding earth tones. Sage is the great undisputed protagonist of next year, but also earthy nuances once again emerge as undisputed winners.
Among these, dark brown stands on the podium, with its appeal to chocolate that fascinates and captivates the eye, followed by burnt orange, mustard yellow and light brown.
Lavender is definitely out.
Patterns in 2024
As far as patterns and motifs are concerned, the modern shapes of the 1960s are trending lower with designers globally moving to 1970s bohemianism in 2024.
The study conducted by 1stDibs shows that, while the aesthetics of the 1920s and 1930s have been consistently on the rise (from 13% expected in 2021 to 25% for 2024), the 1950s have been slowly declining.
Although Scandinavian rigor maintains its presence, the designers, from an aesthetic point of view, do not give up maximalist expressions for the coming year with organic designs and the bold traits of “chubby design”.
Geometric shapes have taken a downward spike in popularity since 2021. Florals and plant motifs rose to the top of the charts (excluding butterfly and insect motifs).
The finishes that will become popular in 2024? Designers chose limewash (see an example below).

Furnishing trends in 2024
Industrial design maintains its solidity among the most sought-after household objects.
Although their popularity is suffering a slight decline, the icons that marked the history of design in the middle of the last century will not give way to innovations.
The most iconic seating in 2024 includes Mies van der Rohe Barcelona Chairs, De Sede DS-600 “Snake” Sofas and Tobia Scarpa Soriana Seating.
As for lighting projects, Murano Glass pendants and Chandaliers, the Noguchi Akari Lamos, the Venini-Style Mushroom lamp and the Ingo Maurer White Paper Lamp enjoy great success.
